Turkish neighborhood gains color with iconic art murals on buildings
MERSIN, TÜRKİYE - RECENT MARCH, 2026: Buildings in the Toroslar district of Mersin have been transformed with large-scale murals inspired by works of renowned painters, adding color to local neighborhoods.The project, launched by the local municipality in 2017, focused on renovating worn building facades in Akbelen and Güneykent areas.Artist Nazife Bilgin Hazar recreated works by prominent figures including Vincent van Gogh, Osman Hamdi Bey, Frida Kahlo, Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso on selected buildings.The murals, featuring iconic pieces such as “The Tortoise Trainer,” “Mona Lisa” and “The Starry Night,” have turned the area into a visual attraction for residents and visitors alike.
