Tunnies grown in the Aegean Sea
IZMIR, TURKEY - DECEMBER 05: A drone photo shows a fish farm where tuna fish are being raised in Izmir, Turkey on December 05, 2021. After being caught in the Mediterranean, the tuna grown in cages in the Aegean Sea is also growing in the South Korean market after Japan. Turkish fishermen, who go to the Mediterranean Sea every year in May, bring the fish they catch in the nets to the farms in the Aegean Sea, within the scope of the quota given to Turkey by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). Every day, fish fed with sardines, snails and mackerel are loaded onto Japanese factory ships that dock on the Aegean coast in December. The fish, which are slaughtered and processed in the ship, are sent to Japan to be used in the production of sushi and sashimi after being frozen.
