New eruption at Mount Etna in Italy
CATANIA, ITALY - APRIL 19: Mount Etna volcano once again starts to spew out ash and lava in Zafferana Etnea near Catania, Italy on April 19, 2025. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the evening of April 18, Etna erupted again with intense Strombolian activity from the southeast crater. The event was characterised by frequent Strombolian explosions, accompanied by a discrete emission of volcanic ash. The magma escaping from the south-east crater gave rise to a lava flow that headed southeast towards the valley below, separating into three different arms. The roars generated by the explosions were strongly audible in several villages on the slopes of the volcano. This is the fourth episode in April 2025. The air raid warning issued in the early evening of April 18 went off shortly before 7 a.m. on the morning of April 19.
