Male elephant, born on eve of World Elephant Day, cheers up Indonesians
LAMPUNG, INDONESIA - AUGUST 12: On the eve of the World Elephants Day, a baby Sumatran elephant was born to amother elephant named Mega (25 years old) at the Lembah Hijau Zoo, Bandar Lampung, Indonesia.Anadolu Agency video captured the male baby elephant which is the first in Sumatra to be born at the Conservation Institute.The baby elephant was born on last Sunday weighing about 102 kilograms with a body length of 111 meters and a length of 33 cm and a height of 86 cm.This baby elephant is the first born in Lembah Hijau after six years at the Conservation Institute, and the birth of this elephant calf is considered as a gift for the zoo in celebrating World Elephant Day on August 12 and the 77th Independence of the Republic ofIndonesia.The first World Elephant Day was celebrated on Aug. 12, 2012, after it was conceived by the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation and filmmakers Patricia Sims and Michael Clark in 2011.The World Elephant Day is celebrated to draw attention to the conservation of elephants and the declining elephant population.
